We reached 2 petabases of total sequence (2,000,000,000,000,000 bases) generated by the Genome Sciences Centre over the weekend.
We reached our first petabase on December 22nd 2015, 16 years after the formation of the GSC.
The second petabase has taken us just 28 months. At a rate of 1.35 terabases per day.
In this time we have sequenced more than 80,000 libraries, 33,000 genomes and 17,500 transcriptomes, with 76 per centĀ of the bases coming from whole genome sequencing.
Congratulations to all at the GSC on generating, storing and analyzing such a phenomenal amount of sequence data!
